2014 CMSE Summer Internship Program

The Center for Minorities in Science and Engineering is hiring 6-8 full-time undergraduate interns to teach engineering concepts, research methods, and robotics to elementary, middle, and high school students. Interns will write a final paper and make a final presentation.  Undergraduate summer interns will participate in 3-4 days of orientation and 4-5 weeks of planning and preparation activities until the start of the various programs (the length of time for planning could be less). Evening and weekend work may be required.
  • Internship dates: June 2 – August 8, 2014
  • ​​Salary range: $10.00 – $12.00 per hour (the higher salary will be paid based on experience).
Housing is not provided. Fingerprinting and background check required (paid for by CMSE) – Cannot use previous fingerprinting or background check information.
Pre-College Programs-Summer 2014:
A specific job description will be provided for the specific programs but most jobs will require:
  • Program planning and preparation of materials for programs
  • Teaching aspects of science, technology, engineering, and math to include building and programming robots, bridges building, circuits, and other hands on science and engineering projects
  • Teach research component  for high school students research workshop and engineering concepts
  • Chaperone students on field trips on / off campus
  • Chaperone and monitor students during lunch, breaks, before-care and after-care program activities
  • Create daily and weekly lesson plans and lesson modules using Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel
